In the spirit of "No child left inside", I journal about efforts to get my daughters - and me - outside. Meanwhile, I tend to be drawn to the weeds. Goodness knows there are plenty of them!

Darn fox. (I assume)
We came home from the pool today to an empty, broken cage, a dead little hen, and nothing else but a pile of feathers. At the moment, I'm ready to go back to horses or cats, or even to venture into dog ownership. This time, it is too unbelievable to cry over.

Nancy, I'm so sorry that the chickens and all your hard work, are gone. I once tried to tend to ailing chicks as a youngster. The discarded chicks from a friend's farm. I suppose it is the cycle of life wouldn't you say? Although, it shocks me why a fox would want to kill 10 chickens and just leave them to waste? Wouldn't it be more prudent to just kill one and make off with it, and come back for the others when hunger struck? Nature is odd. Thanks for sharing this story, tragic as is turned out, and I hope you don't give up on this dream but do try it again soon.
Sorry, Nancy, to hear about your ladies and gents. It's so disheartening. Might it have been a neighborhood dog? We've lost a few chickens to canines over the years as has my North Hills residing friend Doug. Not that it matters who did it...it's heartbreaking no matter who the culprit is.
